The Needs
Like American Indians, Taiwanese Aboriginal Tribes have long been a socially vulnerable group living in impoverished rural areas in Taiwan. Unemployment, alcoholism and poor education devastated the familial and social-economic structure. Children are growing up in dysfunctional family, often subjected to physical and mental abuses; neighborhood bullies. Consequently, they exhibit behavioral problems like impulse control disorder, or become bullies themselves.
The Responses
Galilee Family Social Welfare Foundation established a “Star Ministry stronghold” in one of the tribal area; sponsored a missionary family living there to coach and tutor the children in collaboration with local schools, families and the church. They also built a community classroom for gospel teaching and after-school fellowship. This ministry like a star lit up one dark corner in rural Taiwan and children’s lives were refreshed in God’s glory; thus named “Star Ministry”. Early this year, Dr. Fang and Dr. Shi of Canaan Taiwanese Ministry had an opportunity to visit Galilee Foundation. There they witnessed Star Ministry’s work. Moved and inspired, they started a fund raising platform in Canaan to increase the awareness of the needs and support the work of Star Ministry. They made artisan breads every week in exchange for donations. Praise the Lord! In 3 months over US$8,000 was raised and many brothers and sisters in God expressed willingness to continue their support. Thus in October, Canaan Church decided to make a long term commitment to adopt a Star Ministry.
The wounded hearts never got the chance to heal before they grow up. The vicious cycle repeats that affects their marriage, family, work and sexual relationship.
