Support letter - Benson Chang
Hello, my name is Benson. I am a freshman at Cal State East Bay and am currently completing my prerequisites for the nursing program. One of my biggest dreams is to make nursing my future ministry and lead people to Christ on the field. I am excited to be part of Cannan’s Taiwan Short Term Mission Trip (STM). This trip aims to share the good news and the love of Jesus with the indigenous people in Taiwan. I chose to go on this trip and serve this year in hopes of deepening my love with Christ, strengthening my relationship with him, and taking this as one of the first steps to having a faith like no other to become firmly rooted in Christ.
I was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and lived there until the age of six. I then moved to the United States with my father and older brother, Anderson, and started school at the age of seven. I currently live in Fremont and attend Tree of Life Christian church in Fremont. Taiwan holds a special place in my heart not only because it was my home, but also because of the people who reside there, including my old friends, teachers, and family. When I was younger, I didn’t think much about it. It wasn't until recently that I started replaying and reliving my past life, and experience did I realize how special the people in my life were to me. My old friends were always bringing joy and liveliness and not making things boring. My teachers were always trying their best to educate me and get me to sit down, despite my efforts in trying to get up and run around. My family is the reason why I am here, healthy, and have a home and have access to education and opportunities. These people, including the people in Taiwan, are whom I want to see saved. I want to share with them what god did for me and how much he did for me, and love them with the love of Christ.
Going on this trip allows me to not only serve the kids in Chiayi and Taichung, but also my grandparents at home. Growing up, I never spent much time with my grandparents. When I did it wasn’t about getting to know them and loving and serving them. This year, when I return, I want to spend quality time with them. I want to sit down and hear the story of their past. I want to learn Tai chi
from my grandpa and think about all the different sweet desserts with my grandma before they're gone. In the right time and place, I will tell them about Jesus and how much he means to me.
Going on this trip can be expensive, as plane tickets are a few thousand dollars. We, the short-term mission team, not just me, would appreciate it if we could receive donations to cover the tickets for this trip. If you would like to donate, please go to Canaan Taiwanese Church on
Sunday,4/13, during lunchtime and buy an Aiyu from the fundraiser we will be hosting that Sunday. If you cannot make it, you can donate at . Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and we hope to seek your support.
- Benson
