Viewing Chinese on browsers

How to View Chinese Web Pages
(Traditional Chinese - Big5)

1. If this page is too long for you, please visit Yahoo's How to view Chinese web pages on browsers. They have a shorter one.
2. If your computer is running Microsoft Chinese Windows but the page is not displayed properly, set the encoding to Traditional Chinese by clicking the pull-down menu of the browser as follows:
  - Internet Explorer: View > Encoding > Traditional Chinese (Big5)
  - Netscape: View > Character Coding > Auto-Detect (Traditional Chinese)
  - Opera: View > Encoding > Chinese > Big5 (Traditional)
3. If your computer is running Microsoft Windows OS other than Chinese and you have installed Microsoft global IME (there should be an EN icon at the lower right corner of your screen) but the page is not displayed properly, set the encoding to Traditional Chinese by clicking the pull-down menu of the browser:
  - Internet Explorer: View > Encoding > Traditional Chinese (Big5)
  - Netscape: View > Character Coding > Auto-Detect (Traditional Chinese)
  - Opera: View > Encoding > Chinese > Big5 (Traditional)
4. If your PC is running Microsoft Windows OS but you do not have Microsoft global IME, down load it for free. After the installation, reboot your computer. Then follow step 2. The global IME should work with most newer browsers, such as Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), Netscape 6, and Opera 6.
5. Macintosh users need to have the Chinese Language Kit (CLK) installed. CLK is included on Mac OS 9 CD, but is not installed by default. You need to do a custom installation from the system CD. After the installation, reboot your computer. Then follow step 2.
6. Alternatively, you may download some third party software, such as NJStar and TwinBridge, to handle the Chinese viewing job. However, they are not free.
