Video Recording and Transmitting

Here are the instructions on turning on the video for the nursery in the Fellowship Hall.

1.Make sure the camcorder and VCR is on. (there's a power strip right beneath the keyboard that controls the power to all these devices. Just turn this on and all should turn on)

2.Rewind the tape of the camcorder to the beginning and start recording by pressing the record button (the trigger on the handle) If you look through the viewfinder a green LED will be lit when recording.

3. Change the VCR to channel 3 and select the button “TV/VCR” mode on the remote (if you look at the VCR's LCD display, you will see CH 3 and a little "VCR" sign displayed)

4. If you would like to verify that it is working In the nursery, turn on the TV and set it to ch 3 if it's on a different input channel. (using remote control sitting next to it, select 03 and enter). Sound tech shouldn't have to worry about this step unless it needs to be troubleshooted. The people watching the broadcast will turn the TV on.

Adjustment for Audio Input

All,
Here is some more data:

a) Look on the tape deck, and make sure the input bars are going left and right. Every once in a while, it should be high enough to be in the red region
b) On the audio recorder program, you should see the indicator show that there is an input
c) Use the headphones plugged into the USB sound box to check the audio.
i) Make sure the volume on the sound box is set almost all of the way up
ii) Make sure the computer is not on mute (or else you won't hear anything).

If you notice that the audio is low, a couple of things to check:

a) Input dial on the tape recorder is too low. I usually check that first. I think its normally around 60 or 70%
b) Gain on the main output 5 and 6 on the right side of the board
c) Output gain 5 and 6 for each channel
d) Check all connections and make sure the tape is on record/pause.

Remember that outputs 5 and 6 are directly proportional to the volume of that channel. If the main volume slider for that channel is low, the output will be low. If you don't want to crank up the main speakers, make sure either the input on the tape deck is high or the individual output 5 and 6 gains are high.

George

If no sound is heard when recording or the volume control is not available. Try resetting the USB sound box by unplugging and plugging it back to the computer.

Instruction for Recording MP3's

We're going digital!
We have the ability to record the sermons in mp3 and would like to ask the sound techs to start doing so. The process is very simple and straight forward. (you may want to use cassette backup a few times, before you feel comfortable with this process)
  1. Turn on the PC. Passcode is required.
  2. Put a tape into the cassette recorder as if doing an actual recording from tape and set it up to monitor the recording. (Press record-pause)
  3. Connect the line input to the headphone monitor of the cassette recorder. (There should be a line input with a 1/4" ear phone plug connected to the sound blaster box)
  4. Double click on the SVRecorder on the desktop
  5. Click on Record.
  6. Enter the name of the file. (I like to setup a standard such as MonthDay-Title-Speaker. ie. 5-OurAfterEasterEncounter-PDan.mp3) Save all files under "My Document\CTCC 2004 Sermons from English service\".
  7. Click on record button. (check the sound output on screen and make sure it's recording sound)
  8. Stop it when done. (If you recording contains periods of non-audible sounds, you can cut those periods out easily with the program Audacity described below.
There are some noise introduced during recording and would need a separate process to take out the noise described below.(let me know if you know of a better way to filter out this noise.I'm tinkering with a software called Advanced MP3/WMA Recorder that supports filtering, but haven't found a good setting that will filter out the noise in our system.I'll update you if I'm able to do so.)

  1. Start Audacity from the desktop.
  2. Open the mp3 file.
  3. Highlight a section of the file that suppose to be free of any sound. listen to it by hitting play. You should hear a low rumbling noise.
  4. Select "Effects\Noise Removal" from the menu.
  5. Select "Get Noise Profile." This will keep the profile in memory.
  6. Now select all of the file for editing. (Ctrl-A)
  7. Select "Effects\Noise Removal" again.
  8. This time click on "Preview" and listen to the result. You may need to adjust the amount of noise removed toward "less" to make it sound clear. (removing too much noise will make it sound choppy.)
  9. Once it sounds okay with the noise removed, click on "remove noise" to remove it from the entire mp3 file.
  10. When done, Select File\ExportAsMP3. Rename the file with -NR at the end so that we now Noise Removal has been added. (ie. 0425-OurAfterEasterEncounter-PDan-NR.mp3)

Any questions, ideas? Let me know if you need practice before you are comfortable, continue to do cassette recording for the first few times. Also, If you need to use the remote projection while recording, minimize the svrecorder and let it record in the background.

Resetting the Internet Connection

How do I reset the Internet connection for the computer in the loft?

Once in a while these two devices need to be restarted in order to restore the Internet connection.

1) The Linksyswireless access point right outside the door of the back office in the Sanctuary.

2) The Linksys wireless bridge inside the back office, next to the window.

Resetting these two devices should reset the Internet access.
